With school and winter right around the corner, Kennedy and I have an excuse to shop!!! She has turned into quite the little diva when it comes to her outfits. School shopping was no exception. Okay, she’s not that bad, but she does know what she likes and what she doesn’t. She would prefer to wear a dress everyday with a HUGE matching bow, but we live in North Dakota and that’s just not rational. We tried to find clothes that would be warm enough and still “Kennedy” enough. She tried clothes on for the first time in the store. I have to say she did really well. She loved looking in the mirror and picking out her favorite colors. Her personality defiantly shows in the outfits she picked. They are all bright and fun. She even picked the perfect shoes and mommy found a “dressy” coat to match. She already has a couple coats but this one matched and was just too cute to pass up. On the way home aunt Bell called and Kennedy told her all about the lout. She informed aunt Bell that as soon as we got home mommy would take pictures so she can see the goods. We did a little fashion show to send to Bell. She is so into this girly stuff. We are going to Mall of America this weekend to do a little more shopping and enjoy the state fair. I can’t wait to see what she picks out this weekend. It’s so cute to see her little personality come out.

Kennedy has a best friend that lives behind us. To say that they are inseparable would be a HUGE understatement. They play pretty much every day all day. They even go to the same school. They could spend 12 hours together and still cry when they have to go home. Jules, Kennedy’s best friend, is 1 year and 3 days older then her, but they play perfectly together. Jules has four brothers, two older and two younger. She is the only girl so having Kennedy around is as much of a treat for her as it is for us. Jules also has a little brother Evan who is a year older then Parker, and they play together too. Kennedy and Jules have been asking for a “campover” for some time. It was probably the coolest thing that’s happened to Kennedy in her life up to this point. They did girly things like makeup, nails, and we had ice-cream and watched movies. They didn’t’ go to bed until 10:30!!!! They were giggling hysterically all night. I would go in and ask what was so funny and they would tell me “we just can’t stop laughing cause we are so funny”. CUTE!!

Where to start……………? Well this summer has been a busy season for us. I mean busy busy. Kennedy and Parker started school this summer together. They are going to a preschool program 2 days a week for only 2 hours and 15 minutes, but they love it. I was a little worried that Parker would have a hard time but he LOVES school. Every time I pick him up from school he is so eager to show me what he made and explain in his little precious mumble jumble language. I have no idea what he is saying by the way, but I catch a few things here and there. It was originally going to be just a summer thing, but they love it so much we enrolled them for the school year. School is about the only time I get anything done these days, so it’s as much for me as it is for them. I love school!! I have to say I love this age too. The last two years have been really hard for us physically and mentally. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoyed every minute and wouldn’t trade them for the world. I just feel like we are currently at a really special age that Jeremy and I can fully appreciate. Kennedy is growing into such a sweetheart. She constantly looks after her little brother. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t talk much because she makes sure he has everything he needs. They have a very special bond that Jeremy and I could have never imagined. They spend nearly every second side by side. Parker follows her everywhere!! I’ve even watched them at school during recess (yes like a creepy stalker) and he is always by her side and she never leaves him out. Jeremy and Kennedy have had many special moments lately too. He reads to her every night out of her bible and tucks her in. Lately she has been reciting the bible to him by memory!! She is so smart, sometimes even too smart!!! Parker is all boy!! He loves anything with wheels and anything that rolls. They spend most of their time playing in the sand box, riding bikes, playing on the play set, and running around with the kids on our street. He usually holds his own with the older kids. The summer here has been GEORGOUS weather. We have enjoyed every ounce of it!! Now that the weather is changing we are settling back into a routine and getting ready for winter….. BOO!! Jeremy was accepted into Purdue and Indiana in a dual Masters Program and starts in September!!! We are so proud of you honey!!! I am also going to school, so the Unruh house will continue to be a busy one for quite some time. Anyway, I just wanted to say that we are doing well and that we miss everyone down south (Nearly everyone is south of us)!!! I’ll leave you with some recent pictures of the kiddos.

Fargo Flood

Remember how I posted about the flood? Well, for the most part everything has calmed down. Fargo actually had more volunteers then needed!!! They were making automated calls to let people know the sandbags were all full. Thank you Jesus!!!! I thought ya’ll might like to see some of the damage done by the flood that wasn’t controlled. There are far worse places then this, but the roads were all flooded and we weren’t willing to risk our lives to take pictures of those places. As you can see, some houses were still taken despite the efforts made.

It’s amazing how our perspective on “nice” weather has changed so quickly. Last week when we hit 35 degrees the whole family was out for a stroll. 35 degrees may not sound warm to you, but it’s about 50 degrees warmer then what it has been. This is us shoveling ice, playing in the driveway, and going for a stroll.

Most of this winter there has been atleast two inches of ice on everthing!

We had around 5 feet of snow in our front yard all winter.

On a side note, there has been major flooding in Fargo due to the snow melting so fast. Much of North Fargo is under water and there are other’s still in danger of the flood. Pretty much the whole town has shut down to sand bag and volunteer. The community here is Amazing!! The water is expected to crest on Sunday which means there is still more to come. I ask that you pray for those in need of protection over the next few days.

I have really been challenging my self to get organized. It makes life so much easier with two kids. I thought you other moms would appreciate this. Organization makes me a happy person. I challenge you to do the same!!!

This is the entry way closet. I don't have any before pics but you can trust that it was a mess!!

I have tied cute ribbons on the baskets and added name tags since this pic was taken. Now I don't have to reach for each basket to find the right one. We all have a basket with our gloves, hats, and crap in them.

The Lord had TRULY blessed us with the best kids in the world. Every time I look into their shinning faces, my heart is overwhelmed with joy. Kennedy has taken the role of big sister/protector/ guardian of her little brother. She is constantly letting me know what “butter” needs to make him happy. Her days are spent Laughing, reading, coloring, and enjoying life. Our new church has an amazing Sunday school program that is turning our little baby into a child of God. Kennedy is back to the loving gentle ways that we knew before she was two. Parker is getting so big so fast too. It is crazy how fast the second child grows. Where did my chunky baby go? He is officially a toddler: ( He runs EVERYWHERE just to keep up with Kennedy, which is SO CUTE. He has his own little language that mom, dad, and Sass (Kennedy) can only understand. He can clearly speak about 30 words but only regularly uses about 10. The rest of the time he grunts and points to most things. Right now Parker loves to brush his teeth, play hide and seek, read, and dance.

Margarita Pizza!!! Yummo!!!

I happen to LOVE margarita pizzas!!! I tried one for the first time last year while on a girl’s trip to Dallas and I am HOOKED. I have yet to find a margarita pizza that taste as good as the one in Dallas, so I thought I would try to make one :) I have never made pizza before but it turned out AMAZING It will be added to our regular list of meals. For those of you who don’t know what a Margarita Pizza is, I will include the recipe. I highly suggest making one. Kennedy and I had fun and it was pretty easy. I will warn you that you need a pizza stone. I have had mine for a couple years and this is my first time using it. My stone is a pampered chef stone (thank you Grandma) but any will work.

This is the recipe: The sauce is really the only part that you have to make. I made mine the night before while the kiddos were sleeping.

Basic Tomato Sauce:
Ingredients:

tablespoon olive oil

1/2 red onion, small dice

4 tablespoons minced garlic

Salt and freshly ground black pepper

6 fresh basil leaves, chopped

3 tablespoons red wine

1 (28-ounce) can whole plum tomatoes

Directions for Sauce:

Heat the oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook for about 5 to 7 minutes, until onions are soft and translucent. Season with salt and pepper, to taste, and add the basil leaves, red wine, and tomatoes. Bring to a boil, then simmer for about 20 to 25 minutes. Cool the sauce before using it to make pizza.

Ingredients:

Pizza dough, homemade or store-bought

All-purpose flour for dusting

3 cup Tomato Sauce,

recipe follows 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Fresh basil leaves

Fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced into thin rounds

Cornmeal, for stone

Special equipment: Pizza stone

Directions for Pizza:

Place a pizza stone in the oven. Preheat the oven to 500 degrees F, allowing the stone to get hot.
Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface into approximately an 8 to 10-inch round and 1/4-inch thick. Ladle the sauce onto the dough and spread it over top, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edge. Top with the tomatoes, oregano, some basil leaves and mozzarella rounds. Carefully remove the pizza stone from the oven, and dust with the cornmeal. Place the pizza on top of the stone and pop the whole thing in the oven. Bake until crust is golden and the cheese has melted, about 10-15 minutes.

We did gymnastics when we lived in Abilene so we were very excited to see there was a club here as well. Kennedy loves her new gym!!! It is a very big gym compared to Abilene and a little more competitive but the instructors are great and the other parents seem friendly too.

I am guilty of going through random long periods without blogging, but…… If when you tried to blog and this was going on while trying to do so, you may take a break too. My kids are fast, sneaky and determined to get into things when I am busy. Just take a look at their last adventure. Don’t be fooled by the little one, he was not a victim this time, but more of an accomplice.

Within seconds of me checking my computer, Kennedy scaled the kitchen counter like a tiny silent ninja. She got a hold of my powdered sugar and flung it across the room. This is for real people I don’t make this stuff up!!!! I heard Parker and Kennedy CRACKING up and knowing that this typically means trouble I went to check out the situation and this is what I found. All I could do was laugh and grab my camera. Two minutes of fun = Two hours of mommy cleaning.
P.S. My little sister Chase and I did something very similar when we were little, except we took butter and greased the kitchen floor while sliding from wall to wall in it. My mom would say PAYBACK!!!

Kennedy's Room

I was originally going to paint Kennedy’s room Pink but after painting Parker’s room I decided to paint Kennedy’s the same color. I was looking for a soft green and came upon a color called Texas sage (couldn’t help myself).

THE AFTER: The color is much brighter in this picture then it is in person. Basements here only go down 4ft because the water table is so high, so Kennedy's room has this ledge around the outer walls. I had to hem her curtains to match. No pictures yet but they are coming.

Our new master bedroom is a bit “cozy”. Our bedroom furniture fit with just enough room to spare. We haven’t had much time to do anything else but paint in here. It was Dark blue.

This is where we have spent the majority of our time. As soon as we were done painting we began knocking out the glass tile backsplash. We went with a 2” slate tile which was a PAIN to work with, but it looks AMAZING. I took these pictures at night so it looks a little blah.

A Couple Before and Afters

This is the kiddos bathroom. It was originally teal and is now toned down a bit. We went with the zebra because that’s what Kennedy really wanted. The zebra doesn't show up so great in the picture but you get the idea.

Unfortunately I don’t have any before pictures of the other two bathrooms but I do have some afters. This bathroom was bright red. We had to do two coats of primer and two coats of paint to cover it. There was a pedestal sink but we changed it out for a vanity with storage. The bathroom also had a plain builder’s grade mirror that we changed out for a framed one.

Fargo house

This is our new Fargo house. It has 4 bedrooms, three bathrooms and a bonus room. We are going to put a wall up in the overly large family room and turn it into a fifth bedroom. The house was built in 2006 and is in great condition. These are just some of the outside pictures.

The picture above is the front of our house. It has a HUGE three stall garage that should come in handy.

This is the back of the house. There is a sandbox under the deck that Kennedy can NOT stay out of.

A LOT has been going on in the Unruh’s house or I guess you can say houses. In early September Jeremy was offered a job in Fargo, ND (Yes I said Fargo, you know right by Canada AKA the Tundra!). After thinking it over and praying about it we accepted the offer. A week later Jeremy and I went to Fargo to house hunt and Jeremy participated in the Big Iron Farmshow where he got to know his dealers and co-workers. I have to admit we were a little nervous about what the town would be like (mostly me) but when we got there we were both pleasantly surprised. We knew we would enjoy the landscape because of the rich farm soil and beautiful greenery. For those of you not from Abilene, there are no trees and it is pretty dry so Fargo is a big change. The shopping is Amazing!!!! Because the dollar is so weak all of the Canadians come here to shop too. We are their Mexico. The housing is so different but it only took 3 days to find our house. I guess you can say we are pros by now so it doesn’t take us long. I will post some before pictures of the house now and try to post some after pictures later. The houses we looked at were all the same but our neighborhood was the final selling point. It is a private neighborhood with a golf course, parks and our own school. Did I mention we have millions of kids on our street too!!! Okay maybe not millions but there are tons. We were so blessed to sell our house quick in Abilene. We got full asking price which is great in this market and we closed the week before be bought our Fargo house. The Past month has just been CRAZYINESS and I don’t have the time to blog about everything but I will try to post later about the madness. The move has been so easy on the kids, they love their new house and neighborhood and they can’t wait for snow. I just want to thank all of our Abilene friends for praying for us during the transition. We miss ya’ll so much.

Kennedy goes through a sort of detox when we get back from traveling. She doesn’t like to sleep in her own bed because she has been sleeping with someone else while we travel. The other night Jeremy and I were watching a movie and we heard snoring. Snoring? I mean seriously?? So we went to check on the noise and sure enough there she was passed out in the hallway. She had been watching the movie from the corner and passed out. Sneaky little thing.

Our AWSOME friends the Werner’s invited us to their lake house for the weekend and it was probably the best weekend we’ve had all summer!!! THANK YOU SCOTT, KARA, BRANSON, AND BABY WERNER. We boated all weekend from sun up to sun down and still couldn’t get enough. As soon as Parker baby’s chubby legs hit the water he would splash like CRAZY and then pass out as soon as we got back on the boat!!! We found out (after living here for 2 ½ years) that Abilene has a decent public pool. The kid pool is only a foot or so deep and there is never anyone there. Okay people don’t judge me. I know it’s been FOREVER since the Unruh family has blogged, but we are just so busy in the summer. WOW I just checked and it’s seriously been over two months. I hate that I have waited so long to update everyone!!! We are having so much fun at this stage in our lives and it tends to take a lot of my time but SO worth it!!! I promise I will do better. I wont be able to update everything… mostly because I cant really remember what ALL we have done, but I will try my best. okay friends expect better from now on!!!

Last night we took the kiddos to prime time for some family fun, and they sure did have a good time!! After last night I think this will become a regular event in the Unruh house. We got to see Zach Greinke pitch last week at the Royals game! He didn’t break any records but we still had a memorable time. We were lucky because the rain lifted about an hour before the game. My mom had the cutest Royals jerseys made with Unruh on the back. During the 8th Inning Kennedy and I went to the kid’s park and rode the marry-go-round about 15 times because we had a free all day pass. We would have gone longer but mommy got sick :( we were on TV riding the dweba (zebra) and giraffe that night and it aired on the next day’s game. Kennedy thought that was so cool. We forgot the camera so the only pictures we have are on the way there and on the way home. In the pictures she is with Tyson, (Her Cousin) Chase (her Aunt) and Papa (Her PAPA). We went to this little festival downtown in Bonner when we were visiting family last week. Kennedy played a ring toss game and won! Unfortunately the prize was a giant coke that Kennedy in NO way needed to be drinking. She was so proud; you can tell by the way she guarded her prize. Look at that giant grin.

Jeremy went on a fishing trip a few weeks ago and caught a pretty good sized fish. When he came back I think a little of his enthusiasm rubbed off on our princess. All she wanted to do was go “fissin”. Jeremy and I bought her a “girl” pole and Daddy took our sweet girl fishing. Our good friend Ethan let Kennedy and Jeremy fish at his parent’s house. Mommy and Parker Baby were unable to attend due to the 105 degree weather in Abilene today, CRAZY! As you can see from below they did not come home empty handed. Daddy caught two and so did Kennedy. Lets just say this won’t be the last "fissin" trip! The last picture is of Daddy on his fishing trip in Del Rio. The others are from today.

Great Wolf Lodge

While on vacation last week we took the kiddos to Great Wolf Lodge. It is a year-round family resort located just down the road from my parent’s house. It has a gigantic indoor-outdoor water park PERFECT for children Kennedy’s age. Almost the entire park is less than a foot deep. She had a blast, with the exception of a few things. When we got home she made sure we knew she didn’t like the Yellow slide (because it gets completely dark) and the hot tub. We had so much fun we ended up going back a second day. It’s been a while since the Unruh fam had some good shots taken. The last time we went to get pictures I think three out of the four of us were crying by the time we left. Pictures can be unusually challenging in our household. With that said, I am pleased to present to you the relatively perfect pictures taken the other day. As you can see, we are all looking at the camera, smiling, and there is minimal crying going on!!! We had a great photographer!! Her name is Heather and she is the manager at Sears. She is good with kids and it only took about 15 minutes to get in and out. Of course my OCD husband can help speed things along too. Hehe. Anyway, Ya’ll will be getting an Easter card soon in the mail with the pictures on there. Make sure you put it on your fridge. We worked to hard for it to go in the trash. Better yet, frame it!!!

Just Hanging Out

I reckon it is time for Dad to post one so here it goes. This one was perfect to write about as the pictures really speak for themselves. With Parker rolling, making noises, and trying to stick everything he can pick up in his mouth, it is nice sometimes to be able to just hang out. It’s great that my kids already seem to like sports. This is Parker and Daddy watching some updates about March Madness. Gotta love it!

This past Sunday Jeremy had to mow the grass. What……? March 15th and he mowed the grass already? Yes people, because we have had rain and 80 degree weather the grass is green and growing. Daddy’s little helpa wasn’t far behind. Although it took him an extra hour to mow it was worth it. She had a blast helping daddy mow the grass. Next week……. We plant flowers!!!

Daddy tied the swings up so she could go under the play set. To a two year old, this was a huge deal!!!

Kennedy has such a cute personality. She has about a million dresses and about a hundred pairs of shoes. Okay, maybe I had a little to do with it, but come on, she is my only girl. These are just a few pictures of her around the house showing a little Kennedy sassiness. We told her she had to put shoes on before playing outside and what does she pick to go with her green and blue polka-dot dress? She chooses leopard rain boots of course.

This is miss thing on picture day, she accessorized right down to the froggy.

My little mama is in this “I want to do it too” phase. Whatever mommy and daddy are doing, she has to do it too. A couple of weeks ago I was doing the laundry and cleaning when I realized there was silence for far too long. With a busy two year old this usually means trouble, and I was right. I walked in and with one look on my face she knew she was in trouble. She got this stunned look on her face and yelled “Kennedy Faith….. YOU WANNA GO TIMEOUT”? Apparently she knew the exact words that were to follow my stunned silence. All I could do was laugh and run for my camera. It was the cutest mess I’ve ever had the pleasure of cleaning up!!!

Here she is covered in the baby powder she managed to open and get EVERYWHERE! I was dus powderin da babies hiny ..

A little bit later that night, after we changed her and cleaned up her room, she continued to play all on her own. Again, I hear nothing coming from her room. This time she had passed out from all the excitement.

Wow! This winter has been long, I feel like I’ve been in the house forever and I am beginning to get a little cabin fever. I’ve already painted every room in the house twice, so I thought why not change my hair. Thanks to my wonderful husband, I can do this as often as I want at a discounted price. If you call now he might be able to squeeze you in.

Happy LATE Valentines Day

Our good friends Scott and Kara moved out of their house on Valentines Day this year. Everyone (life group) was over there helping them move the morning of when we realized that none of us had plans…hhmmmm. So Jeremy and I invited everyone over for dinner and drinks. After drinks… a few too many, we decided to play Scene It. We had a blast. Below is a picture of Kennedy and her Valentine Branson having a romantic dinner and drinks Hehe.

For those of you who don’t follow college sports, KU played Oklahoma State Saturday in basketball. As you know, we are a house divided. I have no doubts that our love for college sports will someday be passed on to our kiddos. Just check out our future tail-gaiters. It ended a close one on Saturday (Score maybe a little closer than the game) but Jeremy was the only one able to watch it….maybe we have a little further to go before we really start tail-gaiting!

Road Trip!!!

Sometimes working gets in the way of things we want to do. And sometimes something that seems at the time to be a bad thing turns into a lovely surprise. Jeremy was out of town on business this week so my dad came to help me take care of the kiddos. Frank, my brother in law’s father, came as well. They were both off work due to the shut down at the GM plant in Kansas City. It’s always hard to see them go, but we make the most of the time we get together. We miss you already Papa!!

I love Texas in the winter time. It was 75 degrees last week and Kennedy wanted to play outside. She usually rides her bike around, occasionally taking a stroll in the cozy coupe, but not this day. Daddy was messing around in the shop and she wanted to play too, until she found the Gator. I think she forgot all about the Gator we gave her for her birthday. She is getting much better about not running into things, specifically my car. Of course, she had to look stylish while driving around (can’t forget the shades). I don’t know if you can tell from the pictures but I think everything she owns is in the back of that Gator. I think she pays attention to mommy and daddy when we pack the car for long trips… too funny.

My Big Boy

Our little man is growing so fast. He is five months now and doing well. He laughs, talks, (in baby language of course) and he loves to watch Playhouse Disney. He is already so different than Kennedy was at this stage. I breastfed Kennedy for 7 months, so she started food much later then Parker, and let me tell you, the boy loves to eat. He did great his first time eating. He probably could have taken the spoon and done it on his own; I couldn’t get the food in fast enough. Every time I would take the spoon away to get more, he would scream until I put more food in his mouth. WHAT A CHUNK!! We bought him a Bumbo for Christmas and had to take it back. His legs were just a little too fat to fit in the leg holes. That’s okay though because Kennedy and I improvised. She got a Bratz chair for her birthday and Parker fits perfectly in it (don’t tell daddy). They love to sit together and watch cartoons in the morning, something Kennedy never did as a baby. He also enjoys watching her play. Her main goal in life lately has been to make her brother laugh and she is getting pretty good at it. The other day in the car she had him going for about 20 minutes. It literally brought tears to my eyes, considering Parker usually screams the entire time he‘s in the car.

Okay people… I know I’m a little late on this one, but with two kids and class, you would be too. First Friends put on a Christmas program this year and Kennedy’s class also had a Happy Birthday Jesus party. Miss Dixie and Miss Anna bought pizza and we brought the cupcakes. She has been going to first friends for about 4 months now, and she loves it!!! We put her on the waiting list when we first moved here. We found out there was an opening the day we got home from the hospital with Parker. Hmmm I think God was taking care of mommy that day. Anyway, below are a couple pictures of her class.

Can you believe the holidays are already over? Everything went well aside from Parker getting sick. Our families seem to be doing good and they were all happy to see us. Kennedy was definitely excited that Santa came to see her so many times. We visited both families in 10 days and as you can see, we were ready to be home.

The Unruh Familly Blog - Getting Started

Hey family and friends, we are finally doing it. YEP, we made time for a blog!!! We are going to be tag-teaming this thing as we share our lives and experiences, please don't expect too much from us as we are just getting started. This is our first time out, it's 8:45 pm on Friday, 9 January 2009. We're not sure where to start or what to write. Most of the time we will write this from an outside perspective, so here goes.
Corie starts school in just over a week. She is taking 8 hours this semester after knocking out a heck of a 4.0 last Spring with 15 hours. Parker just got over having double inner-ear infections and has his first tooth just poking through. On Thursday, he had to go to the doctor for a follow-up visit and weighed 23 pounds!!! Kennedy is growing so fast and is talking better than ever. Jeremy is keeping up the same schedule as usual and is looking forward to working with a new co-worker out here on territory. He knows it will be extremely difficult to work with someone else the same way, but he is going to try.
This will wrap up our first spout. We plan to post information about the holidays and get pictures up as soon as we can. Hopefully this will help us keep in touch with everyone and be able to share our lives with everyone, even when we can't be close.
